Sometimes I seek out a restaurant for reasons other than chocolate and then I just hope there will be a dynamite “chocolate something” on the menu. This morning I had brunch at the Golden West Cafe in Baltimore, Maryland.
I love everything about this restaurant. The funky feel. The fact that everything on the menu is made from scratch, most of it sourced from local farms. Even the little note on the menu that says, “We don’t sand-bag food either. It doesn’t get put on the grill until your order comes into the kitchen. Sometimes you have to wait for fresh.”
Sweet potato fries (made fresh with real potatoes) sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. Can you guess what I sprinkled on top of that? You got it. I carry my very own stash of raw cacao powder everywhere I go. I call that recipe development.
Admittedly, it was a little strange eating me brunch under a string of prints depicting the last supper.
In honor of my friend, Gregory at Bienvenue à ma table, I ordered the French style omelet. Check out the size of those capers.
With all due respect to the very talented pastry chefs who have turned cupcakes into an art, I loved the look and feel of the cupcakes in the display case. They reminded me of the cupcakes we decorated as kids, more frosting on our lips and in our noses than on the actual cupcake itself.
And, in addition to the charming ambiance, farm fresh food, and a most attentive waiter, what should arrive with our check? Chocolate for breakfast. . .
Everything looks delicious Sue Ann!
And farm fresh to boot! 😉
what a fun blog! Love this! I will definitely be coming back to check out more posts and tell my friends about it too. Great to meet you at the high-end kitchen store the other day. 🙂

You have such a fun site here! And this cafe is adorable, funny about the Last Super paintings though…sort of quirky 🙂
I’m having fun on your site as well. I’m all over that farmers market salad. Went straight out to my garden after looking at those luscious photos. Thanks for stopping by!
