What is the green leafy thing in the middle of that smoothie? Okay, old habits die hard. In addition to chocolate, I’m a big fan of greens. If I can throw in a few leaves of Swiss Chard or kale, I’m a happy camper. This smoothie consists of:
2 bananas (sliced and frozen)
2-3 leaves Swiss Chard (no stems)
8 oz filtered water
1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
1 tablespoon carob powder
1 tablespoon maca (optional)
1 cup frozen raspberries
1 ripe pear
Blend all of the above in a high-speed blender and enjoy every last drop.
Chocolate for Breakfast
Sue Ann- this looks yum! Just out of curiosity- why the tablespoon of carob instead of 2 tablespoons of cacao? Just curious if there is a particular reason for that.
I have been experimenting with cacao powder, trying to reproduce a chocolate bliss mixture that I used to purchase. My distributor stopped selling it and, rather than find another distributor, I decided to make my own.
The carob lightens it up a bit. It’s also a little sweeter than cacao alone. Sometimes I add a tablespoon of Maca and a teaspoon of bee pollen to this smoothie, as well, but I wanted to make it more accessible to a larger audience.
Try it, you’ll like it!

I can’t wait to try this smoothie, my new blender should be wonderful for smoothies . How many servings are in this recipe ?
Robin
That’s a tricky question, Robin. It depends on the size of the person drinking it. When I make this smoothie for myself, I drink about half, sometimes more, and that’s a meal. When I make this smoothie for “little people,” a six ounce glass seems to do the trick. I hope that helps. Let me know how you like it!
