Food and mood—that’s the topic I began to write about for my Conscious Bites Newsletter this morning. It was a slow but sweet start. I work a little slower on Saturdays. First I make myself a tall glass of electric green juice. Some start their day with java. I prefer a green jolt. Next, I check in with a few friends on facebook. I need my social fix. Then, I fill the bird feeders and decide what I’ll prepare for dinner. Once I have all that sorted out, I sit down to write—something—anything. Natalie Goldberg tells me, “Once you’re deep into it, you wonder what took you so long to finally settle down at the desk.”
It was chocolate. I couldn’t settle down without my chocolate fix. One of the little perks in having a Chocolate for Breakfast fan page is that my fans are counting on me to post chocolate-isms throughout the day. That means I have lots of excuses to keep tasting those creamy little chocolate morsels that line my cupboards.
I reached into my stash. Out came Pirate’s Bit My Arse, Madison Chocolatier’s West. Food and mood, indeed. One look at the label on this chocolate and I was smiling from ear to ear. I took a bite. OMG. The salt and pepper leapt across my tongue while the spicy heat of the chili pepper lingered in my throat and on my palette. Lovely. Now what was I saying about food and mood?
